ingredients:
for the dough
- 3/4 cup warm milk
- 1 1/2 tsp yeast
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 4 tbsp butter
- 1/2 tsp salt
- oil for frying
for the custard filling
- 2 tbsp custard powder (you can find at your nearest asian store)
- 2 cups milk
directions:
- pour the yeast into the warm milk and mix together then set aside. let the yeast rise for about 5 minutes or so
- in a separate bowl, combine the flour and sugar
- then make a hole in the middle of the flour mixture, add the egg, butter and the yeast mixture and combine
- add the salt and start kneading the dough until soft
- for them dough into a ball, and place in a bowl. cover with plastic wrap and let the dough rise for about an hour or so or until doubled in size
- meanwhile, prepare the custard filling
- add 3 tbsp milk into a jar and then add the custard powder and mix. set aside
- warm the remaining milk and once the milk starts boiling, add the custard milk mixture into the boiling milk and mix well until it forms into smooth and condensed
- once the dough is ready, flatten the dough and cut into portions, i used my cocktail shaker lid to cut the dough, it works well
- let the dough rise again while you are heating up the pan with an oil on medium low heat
- once hot enough, (but not TOO hot or the dough will burn) start frying until golden brown, then flip and fry the other side
- poke a hole into the doughnuts and fill with custard filling
- do the same with the rest of the remaining doughnuts
