YEMA CAKE | FILIPINO DESSERT
it's a filipino chiffon cake with custard toppings known as yema-- it is a combination of egg yolk, condensed milk and butter. you can find varieties of yema cake recipes online and i decided to make yema cake with just few ingredients needed.
ingredients:
for the cake:
- 4 eggs
- 3/4 cup all purpose flour
- 3/4 cup powdered sugar (granulated sugar is fine)
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
for the yema:
- 3 egg yolks
- 1 can condensed milk (14 oz)
- 1/2 cup milk
- 3 tablespoon softened butter
directions:
- pre heat the oven to 325F
- into a mixing bowl, add the eggs and beat until well mixed
- add the powdered sugar, flour and baking powder
- combine but please do not over mixed
- pour into a prepared baking pan
- bake for 20 minutes or until toothpick inserted to the cake and it comes out clean
- make the yema. add egg yolks into a cooking pan and beat
- add the condensed milk and stir
- add the milk and stir
- turn on the heat of the stove into low and keep stirring the yema mixture until thickened
- when it starts to boil, turn the heat off and add the butter, keep stirring until you met the good consistency
- strain the yema sauce into a bowl to make sure no lumps on the mixture
- pour the yema sauce on top of the cake and enjoy!
